Many of America's foreign policy problems stem from the past, which was once the present, and at that time the situation was not dealt with in regards to the future. In fact, I suppose it wasn't dealt with in regards to the present either aside from self-interest and immediate satisfaction on America's part. I agree that it is important to not over emphasize the future and base all of our present actions on "ifs." but truly it would be ideal if we could give as much weight to the present as to the past and to the future. All aspects should be considered for the most informed decisions. Could we have been purely altruistic to "our enemies" and found peace? There is an element of justice and defense that is a part of this whole mess. If a "terrorist" who has already committed a crime to America is residing outside of America and contemplating acts outside of the present, should America push aside the "what ifs" and focus on the present situation, which appears to be of no threat? How does a country approach justice in the present? can it only be seen from past actions or should we consider the person or group who is working in the present to commit injustice in the future? (please don't misunderstand me and take this as any kind of defense of the Bush Administration or the torture bill or our participation abroad. these are simply questions.)

a completely irrelevant question for you; what do you think about c.s. lewis and his work? i know it's a very general question but answer it how you will. thanks!meeshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17725844581743810019noreply@blogger.com
